Forest History Society hosts reception to mark the 125th Anniversary of the Canadian Forest Service

FHO Chair, Jim Farrell was invited to attend a speak at a reception hosted by the Forest History Society on the occasion of their Ottawa Board meeting to mark the 125th Anniversary of the Candian Forest Service.

usually held in various US based locations, the Ottawa venue was the first time since 2006 that FHS has held their Board meeting in Canada. The 3-day trilogy started with a field tour to the Petawawa Research Forest where the Board was treated to a number of historic sights 'up the valley' including the oldest Permanent Sample Plots in Canada. The Friday reception hosted forest history friends from across Ottawa and gave Chair, Jim Farrell, a chance to describe the various forest history organizations across the country including their genesis and current activities. He also provided a relatively short overview of the 125-year history of the Candian Forest Service including their early days and how the organization's roots go back to Confederation and the establishment of the national railway. Canada's Board representative (which met on Saturday) is Amelie Roberge of the Candian Forest Service who also organized the tour and associated details. Thanks Amelie.
